A majority of the learning targets in the middle school are at the comprehension level of thinking. We have found, however, that engaging students in content at the analytical level results in deeper learning. Decision making, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, experimental inquiry, invention, investigation, and problem solving are reasoning processes even higher up the taxonomy, and while we also engage the kids in these processes, they don't receive explicit instruction until they're in high school.
