TRIMESTER I
Environmental Science
* Understands how energy flows through aquatic & terrestrial ecosystems from producers to consumers to decomposers
* Understands ways in which organisms interact within an ecosystem: Predator/Prey, Invasives vs Natives, Symbiosis, Competition, etc.
* Understands the importance of biodiversity and the effects of invasive species on biodiversity
* Understands that ecosystems have limited resources and that changes in an organism’s habitat and population size can influence the survival of a population
TRIMESTER II
Cells and Organisms
* Understands the differences between multicellular and unicellular organisms and that specialized cells perform specialized functions in multicellular
organisms
* States Cell Theory
* Explains the organizational structure of organisms: cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems
* Understands the cell is a system and describes the function of the parts that allow for defense, acquisition of energy, waste removal, and
reproduction.
Heredity & Reproduction
* Understands how heredity and experience shape physical traits and behaviors
* Explains that sexual reproduction includes fertilization that results in the inclusion of genetic information from each parent and determines the
inherited traits that are a part of every cell.
* Describes asexual reproduction as a process by which all genetic information comes from one parent and determines the inherited traits that are a
part of every cell.
TRIMESTER III
Human Body
* Understands the basic organ functions of six body systems: digestive, respiratory, circulatory, nervous, muscular, and skeletal
* Understands how pairs of organs and body systems interact to keep a human alive
* Understands the purpose and function of the reproductive system
